Movement Refined:
The Pilates Method
What is Pilates ?
Pilates is a method developed by Joseph H. Pilates (1883–1967), based on principles of controlled movement, strength, and body awareness. Originally created to support rehabilitation during World War I, it later gained recognition in New York for helping injured dancers recover and perform at their best. Pilates focuses on developing strength, alignment, balance and a deep connection between mind and body, gaining a Complete Control of your Body.
What is Reformer Pilates ?
Classes take place on the Reformer, a specialised Pilates machine with a moving carriage and adjustable springs that create smooth, controlled resistance. Muscles lengthen and strengthen together (co-contraction), improving joint stability, coordination, and body awareness. Each class remains highly personalised with only 7 people per session, allowing for precise guidance and effective results.
